Learning Birds

I love working with schools and making art for kids. Here is a poster I was commissioned to create for St Joseph’s School in Milmerran but their absolute jewel of a principal, Lawson Short. He came to me with a concept and characters which we workshopped to develop the poster. It was a challenge to try to find visual cues for the personalities or character traits of each bird, both in the design of the bird and their name text. It was also difficult to wrangle all the elements into a design where everything is visible and ordered, while still being fun to explore. Hopefully, we achieved both things. I definitely fell in love with these birds on the page…even though I’m still kinda scared of birds in real life… shhh.
